The Call of the Wild is Chris Sanders’ first live-action movie as a director, but the dog, who is one of the movie’s biggest stars, was made with CGI. Buck, the tamed mix of a St. Bernard and a Scotch Collie, is the star of the most recent movie version of Jack London’s 1903 novel.

What Kind of Dog is Buck in Call of the Wild 2020
In “The Call of the Wild,” Buck, a much-loved pet from a well-known family, is stolen and sold. He then ends up in the Alaskan Yukon, where he doesn’t know anyone.
The dog has to give up being a pet because he is being trained to be a sled dog for a mail-delivery team. Buck has trouble getting along with the other dogs, especially the leader, Spitz.
After being treated badly by nature and his handlers, Buck meets John Thornton (Harrison Ford), an outdoorsman who knows how to treat an animal right. Buck doesn’t find his true calling until he goes on a trip with John.

In The Call of the Wild, CGI is used a lot instead of Real Dogs and other Animals.
There are a lot of violent scenes in London’s adventure book, especially when it comes to the dogs. The studio found a way to cut down on the violence and scares so they could make a movie that was good for the whole family but still stuck to the story’s main ideas.
CGI and motion capture are becoming more and more common, and because the movie relied so much on animals, it probably seemed like the easier choice. It’s also important to know that The Call of the Wild wasn’t filmed on location but on sets and with green screens.
CGI was always going to be used for Buck and the other four-legged stars, even when the movie was just an idea. Since Buck was based on a real dog, that doesn’t mean that dogs weren’t used at all in the making of the movie.
Call of the Wild was Played by a Rescue Dog Named Buckley.
Terry Notary, a stunt coordinator with a lot of experience, played Buck in some scenes of The Call of the Wild, including ones with Harrison Ford.
A real dog was also used during light and camera rehearsals. Jessica Steele-Sanders, who is married to the director, saved the dog, whose name is Buckley, after filming for the movie had already begun.
Buckley was found lost in a town in Kansas, and a shelter took him in. Steele-Sanders noticed that Buckley was a mix of a St. Bernard and a collie.
This is the same way that Buck was described in London’s book. She then drove to Kansas to get Buckley, and when she brought him to the set, he stood in for the star dog perfectly.

From a Family-Friendly Point of View,
It made sense to use CGI since a mix of live action and animation tends to keep younger audiences interested. The technique, on the other hand, seems to have turned off a lot of critics and potential viewers because it gives animals human expressions, which makes the animation look like a cartoon.
Some people say that the CGI made The Call of the Wild look cheap, especially since Disney just put out Togo, a live-action movie with real dogs.
Even though the story isn’t very good, PETA, which has been working to reduce the use of real animals in movies and TV shows, will be a big fan of the movie.
